if Doug ford wins I’m going to scream
When I first moved into my apartment, everyday I would walk through Ontario Place and admire the sunset over Lake Ontario and the CN Tower. I would marvel about how this beautiful slice of nature existed in the concrete maze that is Downtown Toronto.
That amongst all the horn honking and sirens, I could walk through an abandoned theme park turned community space. Filled with cyclists, kids skateboarding, first date picnics, polar dippers, and Muskoka Chair loungers. The overgrown parts had charm, an urban nature haven.
Until, of course, Ford Nation attacked. And sold the land to a private foreign company for 95 years to make a spa.
So you’re telling me, because we are overworked, barely afford cost of living and live in urban planner’s nightmare of a city, the best solution is to remove one of the biggest, free, outdoor shared spaces. So we can relax. At the spa.
He also removed the Ontario Science Centre, an amazing educational resource that people in a wide range of socio-economic status could pay for and easily navigate to.
This guy is worse than a Batman villain, and poor voter turnout allowed him power.
People are indifferent to voting, that they rather let a grubby little man get his greasy fingers all over anything that is free and good for the soul, so his buddies can get richer.
Somehow Toronto has become victim (jealous much) and this multicultural haven is slowly becoming an influencer beige wasteland for rich people to play around in.
So this is for the people who can easily access a voting poll, but do not take the moment out of their day to use their right and privilege:
Indifference is worse than hatred, and a destroyer of justice.
Revolutions. Revolts. Protests. People have fought throughout history for justice. Rights. Freedom. Access. Nothing we have now came from sitting around waiting for a miracle, or deciding nothing can be changed.
We have become too navel-gazing as a society that we don’t take time to zoom out and think about the big picture. The ants, together, are stronger than the grasshoppers.
For the love of Mother Earth, stop trying to monetise everything, and preserve open shared spaces. Please preserve the pieces of paradise we have left.
And if Doug Ford does get elected again, I will try my hardest not to be utterly devastated in humanity. I will be rioting at Thermea and throwing non-voters into the pit if you’d like to join me.
